2015 Godiva Calling
The call has begun for Coventry and Warwickshire’s finest talent to take to the stage and impress the judges at this year’s Godiva Calling competition. This year will see a few changes to the competition with a brand new genre and new venues too.
Although acts will still be required to have a CV postcode and perform original material - signed bands will also be given the opportunity to battle it out to play at the festival.
The competition will be split into five genres, which will help ensure that judging will be more equal, with each subset heat compared and judged on the same criteria. A brand new genre has been introduced for this year’s competition, with the category of “Comedy and the Spoken Word” introduced - heats for which will take place at EGO Performance Company.
The winners of this category will have the chance to play the Comedy Tent on the Sunday of the festival, which will be a more family friendly showpiece than in previous years, and which will be compèred by some very special guests.
Acts are asked to apply online for the competition genre that best applies to their music, with heats held at the following venues:
- Kasbah – indie/pop
- The Tin Arts and Music – urban
- The Albany Social Club – singer/songwriter
- Fargo tours at The Arches – rock/metal
- Ego Performance – comedy/spoken word
There will be an opportunity for two overall winners to play the Godiva Festival – with the first winner also being offered recording time.
