This year’s competition will give some of Coventry and Warwickshire’s rising musical talents the opportunity to perform at the city’s flagship festival.
Successful artists win the opportunity to perform their own music on the Main Stage over the festival weekend.
Heats will be taking place at venues across the city in April and May. The venues are Millsy’s Café Bar, Coventry Caribbean Centre, The Tin Music and Arts, The Arches Music Venue and The Castle Grounds.
The heats are divided into six categories with one winner from each category: Indie, Urban, Alternative, Rock-Metal, Singer-Songwriter and Under 18s. Bookings for the contests will be managed by the appropriate venues for each genre and the Under 18s category will be managed by the Coventry Music Hub.
Andy Williams, Director of Regeneration and Economy at Coventry City Council said: “As a city we are extremely lucky to have so many talented and creative musicians.
“It’s a privilege to be able to support grassroots artists through Godiva Calling and offer them the chance to win a performance slot at Godiva Festival.
“As always, this competition is only possible thanks to the ongoing support of the local music venues who organise the heats and finals for each music category. We’re incredibly grateful to them.”
Sam McNulty, long time organiser of Godiva Calling is looking forward to seeing this year’s entries. He said: "We had a fantastic response to Godiva Calling last year and saw a huge variety of artists taking part.
“Performing in a Main Stage slot at Godiva Festival is an incredible way for bands to get noticed by fans and industry professionals.
“I encourage musicians from across Coventry and Warwickshire to take part in this unique competition.”
